I’m going to be Induced …

On Monday, September 15th at 9am because my amniotic fluid is dropping again.  I saw Dr. “C” today for a routine apt and he noticed my amniotic fluid looked low … he told me right away that he was going to measure it and that if it were 5 or lower I’d be having a c-section this afternoon , which I was SO not prepared for …

Thank goodness it came back 5.23 !! I barley got out of that one ! YAY ! I wasn’t induced with Emma, so I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m really happy that I get the chance to try and have a natural delivery.

If your wondering why my amniotic fluid is dropping again it’s because Andrew’s kidneys aren’t creating enough urine.  The shunt is still in place and working … which means his kidneys aren’t doing what they should be.

I’m actually relived to have a scheduled day to go in and have my baby.  I was feeling anxious about not knowing when or what time my body might choose to go into labor, and that if it were in the middle of the night, would the staff know what to do with me ??  This way all the doctors involved will be standing by and ready for Andrew the minute he gets here.

So the first thing we want is to hear him cry … that’d be the best confirmation that his lungs are strong.  I don’t want him to have to be hooked up to a breathing machine if it’s at all possible. Then they’ll get him to the NICU and situated and once he’s stable, which may be a day or two, he’ll have his surgery to remove the blockage in his urethra. ( he’ll get a baby catheter in the mean time ).  After surgery, it could take up to a month before we get an accurate reading on his kidney function , at which time we’ll know whether he’ll need dialysis, a transplant etc …

I’ll be 36 weeks on Saturday , so as long as Mr. Andrew doesn’t pull any shenanigans, I’ll be happy to have made it to my goal week ! Obviously the longer I could keep him in the better, but I think I’ll feel a little better once he’s here and we can start getting some answers about his health and start fixing him.

I’ll do my best to publish one more post before I go to the hospital Monday, but it may be a while before I can get connected to the Internet.  So wish us luck as we begin the next chapter in our very tiresome, hectic, unpredictable journey which is our life.  For the moment anyways …

Well, at least he’ll actually BE here so they Dr.’s can work their voodoo magic on him.

And he’ll be able to show us what a little fighter he is.

I’m thinking about you. And I’m pulling for Andrew.

My prayers are with you and Andrew, I hope everything goes well.

I was induced with my first – and as long as you want an epidural it’s fine. The contractions are immediate (within 20-30 minutes of the pitocin drip) and REALLY strong. Having given birth once before – I think this will be a breeze for you.

Just try to get as much rest as you can while you’re waiting. It’s very different to be in the hospital for a day before giving birth (not like laboring at home and then showing up at the hospital for the last few hours). One of my biggest regrets about that day is having not taken a nap.

Pamper yourself as much as possible so that you can have all of your energy when he finally does arrive.

And hey – second delivery AND a little guy? You’ll get him out in like one push!

We don’t always get to know why things happen in life, but….. please know that we are with you, Josh, Em, and little A, every step of the way. You are stronger than you know and we love you.
Aunts M and K

I heard all about you and your baby from Meg, I am wishing you and the baby a safe and easy delivery. I know how the countdown to 36 weeks can be.

Thinking good thoughts for you and Andrew. There’s so much more they can do outside.

Don’t worry about the gestational age. My son was born a month to the day early at 5lb 9oz. They let me take him home the next day.

I will definitely be thinking about you and Andrew on Monday Hannah. I think he’s shown he’s a fighter so far and so is his Momma…

Good luck and I’ll keep you, Andrew and your whole family in my thoughts and prayers. Get lots of rest this weekend and we in the blogosphere look forward to meeting baby Andrew!

Congratulations Hannah,
I’m so glad you finally get to meet your little boy. And I can’t wait to see what he looks like.

Hoping for all good things for you and Andrew.

Lots of good vibes coming your way Hannah. I was induced with my older daughter and in comparison with my 2nd daughter who was natural labor. I really preferred the induction. The contractions were hard and strong, but they didn’t build. I hated the building of the contractions.

WOW! The days is almost here! You will be in my prayers all day as will be the rest of your family! I love you girl! Cant wait to hear how wonderful everything went!!! :) And to hear how your doctors and staff worked there magic!!!!

Congrat’s Hannah…Children are a blessing in themselves and for us, as moms, to give up daily things to hold them in and live on the couch, has even more special memories (especially with a sibling to be running around). I was bedridden with both my girls, low to no amniotic fluid with my first and 5 weeks early weighing in at 5 lb 12 oz. I know how you feel when they find that little extra fluid that keeps “them” in that little while longer. I have two miracles in my life and so do you. Just wait until you meet your little guy and “boy” does it make it all worth while. Our prayers have been with all of you since “The Greats” filled us in and we will remain praying.

How exciting to finally see and touch Andrew! We’re praying for an easy delivery!

Your spirit and courage is amazing! You and your family have been heavy on my mind and I know if Andrew has 1/2 the strength of his mother he will amaze us all. He will be strong and give Emma the tough job of “Big Sista”! loved reading your blogs and I am so poud of you. We will dfinitely ring in 2009 with a hearty welcome. I love you! God Bless you all. Aunt Chris

Have thought about you often since Jen & Ryan told me what you’re going through, Hannah… my thoughts and prayers will be with you & your family & especially little Andrew this week.
