I can almost see the finish line …

Ok,  so here’s a quick update while I have a chance !  We no longer reside in the NICU :(   I know we should be happy about this, but it SUCKS.  Friday the nephrologist came in and said that Andrew was no longer sick enough to be in the NICU and that he would be graduated to the 6th floor that afternoon. We had just started to figure out the system in the NICU. We recruited Melanie to PRIMARY Andrew, and had another nurse ( Lindsay ) on my radar for days, we had asked someone for nights and it was all starting to feel good and we were happy about the consistency having the same nurse was going to bring.

Well, poo poo on that cause now Josh and I are having to take 12 hour shifts, because on the 6th floor the nurses have 4 patients per 1 nurse and the security is not the same nor are we in the sterile environment we were before. So, our little 4 week old Andrew is paired with a 6 yr old little girl … in like a real hospital room.  There’s nothing stopping anyone from walking in and taking my son , or preventing other families from staring at him,  touching him …  because the nurses on the 6th floor only check on him ONCE AN HOUR.  How freak’n ridiculous is that ?!?!

HOWEVER … they’ve teased us about being able to go home sometime this week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Andrew will come home NOT on dialysis, and sometime a few days later we will have to come back down here to Childrens Hosp. for training.  We need to learn how to use the home dialysis machine and give shots and all that other stuff.

I need to get back to the hosp. so I can relieve Josh of his duties , so I’ll write more when I get a chance :)

Hannah, it sounds like a mixed bag with the hospital changes and new routine, but movement forward if they’re talking about releasing him soon. How wonderful it will be to have you four back home, and for Andrew to meet the rest of his family.

By the way, when is your graduation from medical school? Bet you feel like you’ve had a crash course in Nephrology 101!

We are rooting for you. Hold your baby close, and know that we are keeping you close in our hearts!

Lots of love to you four–Ant Marti

I’m sorry you guys are out of your comfort zone Hannah but it sounds like you guys are making a step in the right direction to getting Andrew home for the holidays.

I can’t believe they only check them once and hour. I mean I know how much my six year old can get into in 10 minutes.

*hugs* Hang in there hun

Wow… I don’t even know what to say. I can’t believe you may be able to take him home so soon. That’s amazing and wonderful news. And I can’t believe they have an infant in a room with no one on constant watch. That’s a bit crazy… It’s not like they can call for help or something! Keep on updating us. xoxo Jen

YEAH!!!! Im so happy to hear the good news! I can only imagin though how hard of a transition that was for you two! But just think (fingers crossed) it wont be for too long and you can have him HOME! What progress!!!! Im so happy to hear that! There is light at the end of the tunnel! XOXOX Love ya!

OMG! Wow.

So, that’s awesome, but I can see how it totally sucks. But coming home?! Yay!

There is light at the end of tunnel! With all that Andrew is going through, he still looks wonderful. (The “do” just makes me smile :) ) We are keeping you all close to our hearts! Love, Celeste

There is a light at the end of the tunnel! Don’t get worked up about him not being in the NICU anymore. It’s a good thing, remember? :) It means he’s getting better, Hannah! Your baby will get to come home soon. I’m going to continue to pray for you guys! That finish line is rapidly approaching!

Wow that’s amazing!!! I can’t believe you guys are so close to coming home.

But yes, that would suck to be taking 12 hour shifts at the hospital. That can be so exhausting. Think of how great it’ll be to take him home!

It’s good training though, they did that with Isabelle. They released her from the NICU and then we had to come back to the hospital to stay with her (just for 24 hours) before we could take her home.

As much as I hated it, I have to admit it made it easier to go home with a sick baby. I was comfortable with taking care of her by the time she was released. Without that training I would have panicked a lot more over things when we brought her home.
